Pylon

Anti-image manipulator flashing down the street,

Pointing their plastic finger at me.

They're hoping soon my kind will drop and desaturate,

But I'm gonna wave my filter flag high, high.

Hockey Photos

Took photos of an ice hockey match a few days ago that Darren was playing in. Varsity Series strarts soon, going to ask about that to see if I can get a photo pass.

On other topics... The guest lecturer at NTU this Wednesday was mostly pretty boring. The most interesting parts were what other people did with his Typography rather than what he actually did. Oh well. Only real piece of insight was that I should stop using Illustrator to draw up type and use something like FontLab Studio.

Case Study

"Put together a visual/written case study on a company that you might like to work for."

Well it looks pretty bad but I only put it all together in a couple hours. Most of my time on the computer this week has been used for research into graphic design companies. It takes an age. I spent one entire afternoon and evening just going through book after book while checking online for more information and I did more on other days around other projects.

I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.

"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.
I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.'
I suppose we all thought that, one way or another."

Robert Oppenheimer on witnessing the first thermonuclear detonation (Trinity test) in history.

Nitin Sawhney - Beyond Skin
A sample of Edward Murroware reading this poem is laid over quiet sounds of huge explosions. A slow acoustic guitar tune appears after the words fade, as if there is a fresh new world that has appeared. This quickly fades into a more sad and mournful tone as the vocalist begins to sing. It's a powerful conclusion to Sawhney's album, frightening and emotional. Sawhney's Beyond Skin is a fantastic album of rewarding, organic music and I highly recommend it.

YCN

Todays lecture from YCN was okay. I'd quite like to go to the exhibition at the end of this year... Got hold of one of the YCN books (don't hate me if you didn't, heh). Pretty good for a free book. It's good to be able to see the standard of the competition from 2007. The last two photos are the two breifs that I'll be doing over this term.

Tactile

Tactile: High Tough Visuals
A book I bought yesterday. Sequal to Hidden Track that I bought last year. It's a pretty awesome collection of designs and ideas that have been worked out in three dimensional space.

Hi

Hi, I'm Marcus and this is my (temporary) blog.
My main current task at the moment is to find graphic design companies who I would like to work for. I need to decide what sort of area of the industry I want to be in.
The second task is self promotion and making myself a website. I still need to pick a domain name.
